A warm welcome

At Glasgow Montrose Chess Club you are always assured of a warm welcome. No matter how strong a player, from total beginner to club stalwart to expert grandmaster we would love to have you come along and show us the way you move.

You don’t have to join straight away, just come down for a few nights and see if you like it. Seriously, it doesn’t matter if you only have a passing fancy in giving chess a try or whether you are a crazed chess obsessive in need of urgent therapy via a Richter-Rauzer Sicilian, so long as you want to play chess, we promise to meet that desire!

Chess clubs can seem a bit surreal at first, usually a pile of brooding blokes all looking edgy and intense, but (I think), they are in fact enjoying themselves… We believe in being a sociable club and some of us usually go for a beer and a chat afterwards.
